Hyalomma lusitanicum (Acari: Ixodidae) as a potential public health problem in the Barcelona area

Abstract

The large number of rabbits and wild boars near urban centres in the Barcelona area has allowed the proliferation of the Hyalomma lusitanicum tick, which, in some parts, has a high density. The vectorial capacity of this species and the fact that it is active in the search for a host make it a potential problem for human health.
