Abstract

A sampling period during 1986-88 in sandy beaches of the Balearic Islands coasts and part of the neighbouring continental (NE Spain) coast has revealed the continuity of distribution for some littoral interstitial species of the Western Mediterranean. The mystacocarid Derocheilocaris remanei Del. et Chap. is recorded for the first time in the islands, with a single population in a rather coarse calcareous sand beach in the southeast of Majorca.
