Abstract

During an anual sampling cycle in the Segre river, 20 species of Plecoptera and 23 species of Ephemeroptera have been identified. This two aquatic insects orders show differences in its spatial distribution and abundance according to the greater tolerance with regard to pollution of Ephemeroptera and the most restrictive requeriments of Plecoptera, in terms of water quality and physiographical conditions. Along the time, the superposition of cycles for Ephemeroptera species was more pronounced than for Plecoptera.
For want of an exhaustive review, some of the species listed in this paper can be considered new citations for Catalonia, such as Acentrella sinaica and Calliarcys humilis (Ephemeroptera), and Brachyptera monilicornis, Rhabdiopteryx gr. Alpina and Protonemura angelieri (Plecoptera).
