Abstract

The male of Eleoniscus helenae Racovitza Racovitza, 1907 is described. The female was described according to the only sample coming from Cueva del Andorial (Alicante). It is a species phylogeneticaly interesting, because it shows that the genus Armadillidium Brandt, 1833, could come from forms belonging to the family Porcellionidae Verhoeff, 1918. The new species is close to Armadillidium serratum Budde-Lund, 1885, a woodland species of the north-east of Catalonia.
