Abstract

In 1787 Louis Joseph Proust, professor from the artillery academy of Segovia, was commissioned to visit the bronze foundry of Barcelona and the cast iron foundry of Sant Sebastià de la Muga (Girona), in order to familiarize himself with the industrial applications of metallurgical chemistry. As a result, Proust published a paper about the ammunition of la Muga foundry, including some recommendations to improve the production, a fact which demonstrates Proust’s interest in the application of science to the industrial processes.
