Physicists in Barcelona’s School of Informatics Authors Jordi Fornés de Juan Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya Keywords: history of physics, history of computing, Barcelona School of Informatics, computer simulation Abstract In late 1970s Spain, the professionalization of computing and the birth of the first university degrees in informatics offered opportunities to other scientific disciplines. At the time when computer specialists were beginning to produce its first publications in the scientific literature, another group, the physicists, approached the FIB looking for techniques and methods of computing, parallel programming, computing power and academic positions.
