Abstract

In late 1970s Spain, the professionalization of computing and the birth of the first university degrees in informatics offered opportunities to other scientific disciplines. At the time when computer specialists were beginning to produce its first publications in the scientific literature, another group, the physicists, approached the FIB looking for techniques and methods of computing, parallel programming, computing power and academic positions. A consequence of this mutual approach was the creation in 1982 of the section of physics within the department of computer technology, in which computer simulation was prominent in runtime consumption and scientific production.
