Abstract

This communication is about the scientific aspects of the travels of the Catalan expeditionary Domènec Badia, who is widely known as Alí Bei. We discuss the scientific motivations of his journey through Africa and Asia; we state his preparatory work concerning the acquisition of scientific instruments; we present his planning for the astronomical and meteorological observations; and, finally, we discuss the scientific legacy of his work, still partially unpublished.
