Abstract

The appearance of “The Origin of Species” by Charles Darwin almost immediately generated a fierce debate in almost all areas of knowledge and society at that time. Some of the main opponents of the theory were the religious authorities, mainly represented by the Catholic Church. This article deals with the specific case of criticism by Francesc Aguilar, a Catalan clergyman, whose objections were based not only on religious grounds but also on scientific knowledge.
