Abstract From 1856 to 1892, the “Revista de Telégrafos” published more than 170 articles on batteries, thirty percent of them were written by Spanish telegraphists who had been trained as electricians. In many of these articles authors used chemical theories and explanations about batteries, instructions on their operation, care, and cleaning. We will try to discover what were the reasons of this strategy and if telegraphists were able to achieve the goals that they envisaged in their papers.Key words: Batteries; Physical and Chemical Theories; Telegraphists; XIXth Century; Spain.
