The scientific work of Ramón Ortiz Fornaguera (1916-1974): A chapter of Mathematical, Theoretical and Nuclear Physics during the Franco Dictatorship in Spain Authors Pablo Soler Ferrán Keywords: History of Physics in Spain, Scientific Biography of Ramón Ortiz Fornaguera, Theoretical Physics, Mathematical Physics, Nuclear Physics Abstract This paper provides a biographical account of the Spanish physicist and mathematician Ramón Ortiz Fornaguera (1916-1974), who developed most of his career in the Junta de Energía Nuclear. Since 1946 he published papers in theoretical physics, a field which was virtually nonexistent in Spain. Ortiz was considered in those years one of the most capable mathematical physicists in Spain. His promising beginnings were not consolidated into a research career in this discipline, but later he received international acknowledgment in the field of nuclear reactor calculation. Ortiz’s scientific career data has been obtained from several archives primarily from his personal one, which includes correspondence with scientists quite relevant in their times. Keywords: History of Physics in Spain, Scientific Biography of Ramón Ortiz Fornaguera, Theoretical Physics, Mathematical Physics, Nuclear Physics Downloads PDF (Català) Issue Vol. 8 (2015) Section Articles License The intellectual property of articles belongs to the respective authors. On submitting articles for publication to the journal Actes d’Història de la Ciència i de la Tècnica, authors accept the following terms:Authors assign to Societat Catalana d’Història de la Ciència i de la Tècnica (a subsidiary of Institut d’Estudis Catalans) the rights of reproduction, communication to the public and distribution of the articles submitted for publication to Actes d’Història de la Ciència i de la Tècnica.Authors answer to Societat Catalana d’Història de la Ciència i de la Tècnica (SCHCT) for the authorship and originality of submitted articles.Authors are responsible for obtaining permission for the reproduction of all graphic material included in articles.SCHCT declines all liability for the possible infringement of intellectual property rights by authors. The contents published in the journal, unless otherwise stated in the text or in the graphic material, are subject to a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs (by-nc-nd) 3.0 Spain licence, the complete text of which may be found at http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/3.0/es/deed.en.
