Abstract

Lighting flourished in Spain between 1929 and 1936. The Asociación Española de Luminotecnia (AEL - Spanish Assotiation of Lighting) appeared as the main actor in the process of popularization of «rational lighting», the way that the tecnicians appropiated the electric lighting technologies. The aim of this paper is to analyze the role of AEL in the popularization of electric lighting: their relations with electric industry; what kind of knowledge produced and circulated, and by what means. Also, we will try to understand how different audiences react to this knowledge. The paper includes the analysis of Comitè Català de Luminotecnia (CCL - Catalan Committee of Lighting), the association that shared objectives with AEL working in lighting popularization in Catalonia.
