Abstract

This is a study of the pre-Romanesque church of Sant Martí del Forn del Vidre. Currently in very poor condition, its architectural interest lies in its three-lobed East end with three apses arranged in the shape of a cross, a model imported from the Christian East that is quite rare in the European pre-Romanesque. Standing next to the ancient Via Domitia, near the Panissars Pass, it is on record from the year 844, when it was a cell belonging to the abbey of Saint-Hilaire of Carcassonne, as shown by a privilege of Charles the Bald.
