Abstract

From the end of the 12th century, Vic Cathedral possessed a gift from King Alfons in the form of an ivory plaque representing the deesis made in Constantinople during that period. It came to decorate the covers of a textus argenteus that was used for solemnities in the cathedral until the 16th century, when this book was replaced by other codices. In this article, we attempt to discover how this piece of art came from Constantinople to Vic Cathedral and we try to explain its presence today in the Louvre Museum in Paris.
