Importància i distribució de la garnatxa blanca Authors Jordi Rius Abstract La garnatxa blanca és, des dels inicis, la varietat més relacionada amb la DO Terra Alta. S'han trobat fragments de textos que ja parlaven de l'existència d'aquesta varietat a la zona de producció des de fa quatre segles. Actualment, la garnatxa blanca representa el 22 % de la superfície de la denominació d'origen, amb una mitjana de producció de 6,6 milions de quilograms i amb 1.451 hectàrees de vinya. Això representa: la segona varietat en importància dins la zona de producció, el 86,4 % de la superfície plantada a Catalunya, s'estima que un 75 % de la superfície plantada a l'Estat espanyol i un terç de la superfície mundial. És per això que es pot concloure que el futur de la garnat-xa blanca passa per la Terra Alta: hi ha la varietat, el terrer, el clima i el saber fer de viticultors i cellers.
