El Gran èxode del 1939 i d'altres exilis del segle XX Autores/as Enric Pujol i Casademont Resumen El tema de l'exili és encara poc valorat per la historiografia contemporània, malgrat ser una constant històrica i un fenomen característic del segle xx. La Guerra Civil de 1936-1939 i el triomf franquista desencadenaren un exili sense precedents en la història contemporània de Catalunya. Aquest exili fou clau en la preservació de la cultura catalana (perseguida pel franquisme en els mateixos territoris catalans) i en la continuïtat de l'autogovern català, la Generalitat de Catalunya. Així mateix, fou una plataforma importantíssima per a l'oposició democràtica al franquisme, per bé que perdé pes polític cap als anys seixanta. En aquells moments, però, es produïren, a causa de la lluita antidictatorial, noves tongades d'exilis que ja no tenien res a veure amb la dinàmica de la guerra civil dels anys trenta. A la mort del dictador Franco, hi va haver molts retorns, però la feblesa de la democràcia sorgida en el procés de transició política provocà noves sortides. Per poder conèixer amb més detall una temàtica tan important, cal impulsar un procés d'institucionalització cultural que en possibiliti l'estudi sistemàtic i cal també que l'anàlisi d'aquest fenomen es converteixi en objecte d'estudi prioritari per a la historiografia i el conjunt de les ciències humanes.
