Resum

Mercè Rodoreda is the most translated author in Catalan literature. La Plaça del Diamant, which has been translated into 37 languages in dozens of different translations, places her ahead of such internationally famous fiction writers as Jaume Cabré and Albert Sánchez Piñol. This symbolic novel of the human condition, hailed by critics and beloved by a diverse array of readers, is particularly representativ of the author’s literary talent and ambition and can be considered a major 20th-century classic thanks to its extraordinarily high quality.

Neus Real (Barcelona, 1968) holds a PhD in Catalan Philology from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) and is an associate professor in Education Sciences at the UAB. She is the author of around 100 publications, most notably books like El Club Femení i d’Esports de Barcelona, plataforma d’acció cultural (1998), Mercè Rodoreda: l’obra de preguerra (2005), Les novel·listes dels anys trenta: obra narrativa i recepció crítica (2006), Dona i esport a la Catalunya dels anys trenta (2009) and Aurora Bertrana (2017).
