Abstract

This work presents a proposal for the designation of genetic soil horizons for the soils of Catalonia, with emphasis in the case of soils developed on carbonate and gypsum rich parent materials. Designation criteria, and adopted rules of nomenclature are outlined, as well as the use of suffixes to show the edaphogenetic processes or the properties of the soil horizons. Finally, for some of the more often encountered soil horizons in Catalonia their horizon designations are given.
