Resum

The article outline some hypothesis oriented to explain the female absences from the labour market, mainly presents in the European Welfare States. These absences works as the two faces of the same coin building up the basis of a bread-winner model. Female part time and unemployment are also social indicators for pointing out gender inequalities in the labour market. Structural characteristics of these absences put in question European SocialPolicies of employment and Positive Action for women implemented during these two last decades. Data analysis elaborated from this point of view shows that these female absences (part time and/or unemployment) are useful to describe unequal relationships between men and women, in relation with the total workload. Finally the author suggest some ways to review this social contract between both genders.
