Resum

In the catalogue of children of Night, Hesiod enumerates a list of powers that represent some aspects of the word. In this paper I argue for an interpretation of the catalogue as a self-referential passage regarding the epic poem in connection with the proems of Theogony and Works and Days, and with the travels and the poets country, Ascra. The existence of a single Eris in the first poem is denied in the proem of the later one in order to incorporate the voice of censorship into the poetry of praise, redefining the relationship between the Muse and the children of Night.
