En aquestes pàgines es posa de manifest el paper, fonamental, que han jugat els ateneus com a vertebradors del país, especialment des del punt de vista cultural, sense oblidar que en el cas català els ateneus han ultrapassat d’una manera evident aquestes funcions culturals per esdevenir una peça fonamental, també, en la vertebració política de la Catalunya contemporània.
